Knife "length" is measured from the handle base to the blade tip.
Notes on knife steel: Non-stainless carbon steels (e.g. 1095) are made for tough use, such as survival knives. However, they will corrode and must be cared for accordingly. Although stainless steel blades are corrosion resistant, they must also be kept clean and dry, since they too will corrode under the right conditions. All knife steels have high carbon content for hardness and to ensure a long-lasting, sharp edge.
